Mapmaker currently has two KLT/ATLAS Digital Softcopy Photogrammetric workstations as our primary production equipment. For those not familiar with softcopy photogrammetry, the aerial photography is converted to digital imagery through the use of extremely precise scanners that faithfully replicate the geometric and radiometric properties of the original film. The software/hardware combination of the workstations allows the operator to see the images in true 3D and to accurately digitize any desired features. The collected data can also be viewed in 3D, which provides instant verification and helps to insure completeness of the data set. In addition, real-time TIN/contour generation along with completely customizable line, symbol, and attribute libraries helps the operators to be more productive than ever. Both of our Digital Softcopy stations are equipped with:
HIGH SPEED PENTIUM III DUAL PROCESSORS KLT/ATLAS COLLECTION AND EDIT SOFTWARE STEREO SUPER-IMPOSITION REAL TIME TIN/CONTOUR GENERATION AUTOMATED BATCH EDITING ROUTINES DIGITAL ORTHOPHOTO PRODUCTION INTEGRATED BUNDLE ADJUSTMENT TRIANGULATION AUTOMATIC IMAGE CORRELATION
Our third data collection station is a Swiss made Wild AG-1 analog stereoplotter. It has been upgraded with encoders and computer and uses the same basic software, but without the stereo-superimposition of the softcopy stations. Over twenty years old, this particular instrument is in near mint condition with excellent calibration statistics and continues to be a real workhorse.
In addition to the three stereo digitizing stations, we also have two CADD stations with large screens and Pentium 4 computers. These handle most of the post-collection editing, translating, and plotting. The hard copy plots are output on a 36" wide roll feed HP650C ink jet plotter. This will most likely be retired in favor of a 42" wide unit in the future.
